CBU invites applications for the role of Manager, Arena Operation in the Facilities Management Department. This is a Full-Time Continuing Role.

 

Facilities Management is a core department of operations at Cape Breton University. Facilities provides a range of services including the alteration and maintenance of existing facilities, project management, utilities services, the maintenance of residences, and management of the Canada Games Complex. The objective of the Department is to effectively and efficiently deliver a multitude of diverse functions and services in support of the university’s overall mission.

The successful candidate will be working in the department of Facilities Management under the Director, Facilities Management. This role will assumes responsibility for the overall operation and management of the CBU Arena including managing the Rink Attendant personnel involved in the operation, maintenance and alteration of the arena and other recreation facilities, ensuring that all jobs are completed safely, efficiently and on time within regulatory guidelines.

 

Some respsonisbilities for this role, but not limited to, are to manage rink attendants and other staff including term and casual employees, and summer students, including hiring, discipline, firing, planning, scheduling, training and performance management. They will also be asked to manage employees and contractors that may be involved in the setting up of off-ice events. Develop and manage the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, including the creation, modification, and scheduling of PM routines for arena equipment.

 

The successful candidate will investigate, analyze, and resolve complex building maintenance issues such as indoor air quality, heating and ventilation problems, and electrical supply issues. They will also manage the operational budget and Ensure stakeholders are kept apprised of progress on maintenance/repairs.

 

Successful candidates will have:

  • A minimum of five (5) years in arena management, with an understanding and knowledge of ice arena operations, ice resurfacing, ice plant, and facility operations.
  • A valid Refrigeration Class 2 ticket is required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including responding to emergency calls during evenings and weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work cooperatively and effectively with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to review and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction and contracting methods, Workers Compensation, and contractor insurance requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of area plant operations and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of regulatory procedures, and provincial Codes/Standards.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of building trades, the N.S. OHS Act, WHMIS and the Construction Safety Association of Nova Scotia.
