Indigenous Student Enrolment Specialist – Unama’ki College

Cape Breton University (CBU) invites applications for the Indigenous Student Enrolment Specialist in the Unama’ki College. This is a full-time continuing position.The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and execution of Indigenous student retention strategies in partnership with CBU Enrolment Services and Student Affairs, including student well-being and support and maximization of student retention. This position will serve as a key point of contact for students by providing effective, efficient, friendly, and reliable service, counselling and support.

The successful candidate will inform, promote, and recruit Indigenous students and collaborate in providing transitioning, academic, and mentoring support to students enrolled at CBU in all fields of study. The successful candidate will also work primarily in Unama’ki College, liaising with Enrolment Services and Student Affairs as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree (CBU graduate preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous demographics specifically communities throughout Mi’kma’ki
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous university students.
  • Fluency in the Mi’kmaq language is prefered; preference will be given to candidates who are First Nations.
  • Willingness and aptitude to learn and apply academic and financial regulations.
  • Adept in the use of social media.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with tact and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain good working relationships with other employees.
  • Good judgement skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and provincial student loan policies is an asset.
  • The nature of the position requires travel. Clean driving abstract required.
