Investing in Nova Scotia’s Tourism Leaders

Our Purpose

Cape Breton University (CBU) in partnership with the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS) is proud t offer a scholarship program for emerging and established tourism professionals who are ready to take the next step in their education and leadership journey.

This program supports the professional development of tourism leaders by providing financial assistance to pursue a Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (BHTM) degree at CBU.

What is Available?

A total of $30,000 in scholarships are available to eligible students for the 2026-2027 academic year. The number and value of the scholarships will vary based on the needs and circumstances of the eligible students.

Recipients must meet program requirements and remain in good academic standing.

Who is Eligible?

• Currently employed in or have recent experience in Nova Scotia tourism, hospitality, recreation, cultural, events, visitor services, destination marketing, attractions, accommodations, food and beverage or related sectors
• Have minimum of 5 years tourism and/or hospitality industry experience
• Meet the admission requirements for the BHTM program. To review the requirements, visit cbu.ca/bhtm. 

Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate leadership, community involvement, are balancing work and family commitments and/or are from Indigenous, rural, Acadian, African Nova Scotian, cultural or other underrepresented tourism communities. 

What is Required?

• A statement outlining your career goals, leadership aspirations and how the BHTM program will support your growth and the future of Nova Scotia’s tourism industry
• A letter of recommendation from a current or recent employer, supervisor, industry leader, community organization or tourism-related association

How to Apply

To submit your application, please email awards@cbu.ca. Applications must include the required statement and letter of recommendation. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee from CBU and TIANS.

Te deadline to apply is August 14, 2026.

This is a pilot initiative for the 2026–2027 academic year. CBU and TIANS will assess participation, impact and alignment with workforce development objectives. After the pilot, outcomes will be reviewed for continuation, expansion or modification.
