CBU Men’s Soccer Teams Receives National Rings

Cape Breton, NS

Today, Thursday, October 25, 2018, in a ring Ceremony held at Cape Breton University, the CBU Men’s Soccer team received their 2017 U Sports National Championship rings.
The CBU Men’s Soccer team had quite the 2017 season winning their first national title. They brought home the gold by winning the semi-final in overtime over the host Thompson Rivers University and winning the national final with penalty kicks 3-2 over the Montreal Carabins. This is the first national title for CBU’s men’s soccer program.
“This is an extremely proud moment for CBU’s Athletics department,” says John Ryan, Director of Athletics. “The team was dedicated and their commitment paid off. Winning a National title certainly speaks to the hard work that they put in and also to the calibre of student athletes, coaches, and sport that is played at Cape Breton University.”
The men’s program also reached another pinnacle in 2017 by reaching the top of the National rankings. They were ranked number 1 in Canada by the mid-way point of the season and it was the first time for our Men’s Soccer Program to achieve this recognition. In addition, Coach Deano Morley was named the National Coach of the Year.
CBU is the only Atlantic Canadian University to take home the national title twice in the last 20 years; the women in 2007 and the men in 2017.
