Cape Breton University’s Boardmore Theatre will showcase exceptional productions with its 2019 Elizabeth Boardmore One Act Play Festival, running March 7 – 10, 2019.
A total of 12 plays will be staged over the four-day event, including five original plays written by CBU students and local playwrights. Boardmore Theatre Artistic Director, Todd Hiscock says he’s giddy with excitement over the schedule for this year’s one act play festival.
The festival offers the community an opportunity to celebrate live theatre. It also allows audiences to see several quality productions from numerous theatrical styles while showcasing new and experienced writers, directors and actors.
“The response for the 2019 festival has been fantastic,” says Hiscock. “The number of productions is up this year largely to do with CBU student involvement. Four of the 12 plays will be written by and or directed by CBU Students.” Hiscock is also very pleased to welcome a group of international students for the first time. The students stage a production of Trial, directed by Rony Robson from India.
Public discussions, led by festival adjudicator Gary Walsh, will be held in the Pit Lounge, following each of the set of plays. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. A One Act Festival Pass is $50 for general, $25 for student and seniors.
The box office is open 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
