CBU to Honour Veterans and those currently serving

Cape Breton University will honour veterans and those currently serving our country with a Remembrance Day tribute on November 9, 2019. The tribute will be hosted by CBU Athletics and held during the evening’s basketball games when the CAPERS take on the Memorial Sea-Hawks.

The ceremony, to be held between games, will serve to recognize local members of the community including those from the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Legion (including participating Branches, Branch 12, Branch 128, and Branch 138), as well as CBU faculty, staff, students and alumni, who have served our country.

“We want to invite everyone in the community to come on out to this event as our guests, to watch some great basketball, but, most importantly, help us honour Cape Breton community members who have served or are serving our country,” says John Ryan, Cape Breton University Athletic Director. “Giving the timing with the success of this past summers Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships, and with the special Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Cape Breton University recently signed in partnership with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, we feel it’s important to integrate our gratitude for those who serve with an on-campus tribute to show our respect.”

There will be no entrance fee for fans to attend the games, but donations for the Royal Canadian Legion will be accepted at the door. The women’s game tips off at 6:00 p.m., while the Men’s tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
