Throughout his career, he has been involved in market development and consultation across the business sector and is highly decorated as an expert in his field.

Dr. Nadeau has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, multiple of which have earned him Outstanding Paper Awards. His research productivity is primarily focused in consumer behaviour in the areas of sport and tourism management. In the community, Dr. Nadeau is an advocate for community-based business and has served in a number of roles facilitating partner relationships, implementing research surveys and demonstrating his passion for creating flourishing communities.

“Dr. Nadeau is a leader in the higher education and business sectors, and will bring strong direction to our thriving Business School,” says David C. Dingwall, President and Vice-Chancellor. “As our programs continue to expand and grow, Dr. Nadeau’s expertise will bring unique perspectives and drive continued success. I look forward to working with him as we take Cape Breton University to the next level.”

Raised in a small Quebec town, Dr. Nadeau studied and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Marketing from Carleton University in 1995 after which he completed a Master of Management Studies in 1998. He began his career as a Market Analyst with Tembec Inc. shortly thereafter, then transitioned to the role of Market Development Specialist for the Toronto Star in 2000 before becoming a Lecturer at Carleton University in 2004 while completing his doctorate degree. From then on, Dr. Nadeau climbed the ranks to assistant, associate and full professor as well as serving in Directorial roles at both Nipissing University and Ohio University. In 2018, Dr. Nadeau became Interim Associate Dean at Nipissing University and in 2021 became the Dean responsible for the School of Business, School Criminal Justice, School of Nursing, School of Physical and Health Education, Schulich School of Education and School of Social Work at Nipissing University.

Dr. Nadeau’s family is from the Maritimes and he says he is looking forward to coming to Cape Breton Island. “My family is from Saint John, New Brunswick, and we used to spend our summers there so the Maritimes always felt like home to me.  I look forward to settling my family in Sydney and enjoying all that Cape Breton has to offer.  In particular, I look forward to meeting with community business leaders to discover new ways that the Shannon School of Business can help support the Cape Breton economy.”

Dr. Nadeau will take over for George Karaphillis, who served as Dean of the Shannon School of Business for 7 years. His expertise and experience will allow the Shannon the School of Business to continue to operate at the highest level, which will be paramount as CBU continues to grow in the coming years.

Dr. Nadeau will assume his role as Dean of the Shannon School of Business on July 15.
