CBU Announces Downtown Prince Street Location

Cape Breton University is excited to announce its new downtown location at the Cineplex Theatre on Prince Street, beginning in January 2022. The partnership with Cineplex will allow students studying in CBU’s four Post-Baccalaureate programs to expand their learning environment, taking classes in the heart of our community.

CBU continues to experience significant growth with particular demand for Post-Baccalaureate programming. This partnership allows the University to accommodate growing student enrolment, currently projected to continue through the 2024/25 academic year.

“While CBU continues to advocate for the creation of the Centre for Discovery and Innovation on campus, partnerships with theatres such as this are common in Canada, with locations proving to be successful and effective learning spaces,” says President and Vice-Chancellor David C. Dingwall. “As programs continue to grow and expand, CBU remains dedicated to providing high-tech, comfortable learning environments for all students. And, with on-site support services our students will continue to have an exceptional CBU experience and receive the quality education that we are known for.”

Beginning on January 10, the first day of the winter semester, CBU will have access to four theatres at Cineplex, as well as an office space next door where students can meet with faculty members, student placement officers and a dedicated program manager. Student supports will be made available on site to ensure students have everything they need at their fingertips. This expansion will also generate significant economic activity for the community, with more than 1200 students in the downtown area.

“This is exciting news for many of the locally owned and/or operated businesses within the CBRM, especially within the downtown core,” says Kathleen Yurchesyn, Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce CEO. “Cape Breton University students play a significant role in stimulating the Cape Breton Economy, so this type of daily access to local establishments will be quite impactful economically, but also in terms of creating connections within the community.”
