Cape Breton University (CBU) is proud to announce that the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (BHTM) program has been designated as a SMART+ accredited program by Tourism HR Canada. CBU is the second university in Canada to receive this designation.
“CBU is very proud to have the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management program designated as a SMART+ accredited program,” says Dr. John Nadeau, Dean of the Shannon School of Business. “Our program provides a blend of management theory and experiential learning to prepare graduates for higher level positions within the tourism sector. This accreditation is a testament to what we already do very well in the program.”
The SMART+ Accreditation Program is offered by Tourism HR Canada, a pan-Canadian organization with a mandate aimed at building a world-leading tourism workforce. Receiving this designation indicates that the BHTM program at CBU meets or exceeds the industry standard and demonstrates the best practices in program development and delivery, along with exceptional review, improvement and outcomes measurement.
The BHTM program is a three-year program that combines tourism and hospitality, business education and the opportunity to augment a specialty area with elective courses. The program blends in-class learning with hands-on experience, in conjunction with two paid internships, to prepare students for a position in the multifaceted hospitality and tourism industry.
“Completing the SMART+ accreditation is very important to CBU, the Shannon School of Business and the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management program,” says Mary Jane Morrison, Associate Dean of Partnership and Engagement. “We have always strived to provide a world-class education in this field for our students, and the completion of this accreditation solidifies our commitment to excellence.”
