CBU and DCBA to Host Tourism Innovators Summit

Cape Breton University’s (CBU) World Tourism Institute (WTI) and Destination Cape Breton Association (DCBA) will host a Tourism Innovators Summit which will be a unique gathering of creative, forward thinking, tourism industry owners/operators and their partners. It is the first time such a meeting has been hosted in Cape Breton to specifically focus on tourism industry innovation- opportunities, ideas and challenges.

Discussion topics will include innovative approaches to marketing, product development, partnership strategies, nurturing innovative communities and the overall vision for the Cape Breton Tourism Industry.

Dr. Keith G. Brown, Managing Director of the WTI and Professor in CBU’s MBA in CED program, says, “This type of industry-based input and direction is crucial in guiding the direction of Tourism Research and Programming at CBU.”

Local Tourism operators will provide short overviews of their innovations while others will offer a more in-depth insight into their successes and future strategies.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Ayse Ersoy who has recently joined the faculty at the Shannon School of Business at CBU. She brings a wealth of global corporate management and marketing expertise as well as timely research concerning the future of digital communications and how the Cape Breton Tourism sector can prepare for this future.

Mr. Terry Smith, CEO of DCBA says, “This relationship with CBU’s WTI is crucial as our organization works to plan and support our strategy 2030. We are interested to learn what barriers may be constraining these forward-thinking operators and how we can collectively move forward.”

The event will take place at the Wagmatcook Cultural Centre, Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
