Cape Breton University Receives $75,000 Gift from Ted Nolan Foundation

On October 1, 2018, Ted Nolan, former NHL left-winger and head coach, presented Cape Breton University with a donation of $75,000 to establish the Rose Nolan Scholarship at CBU.
The Rose Nolan Scholarship is being established by the Ted Nolan Foundation to assist First Nations women seeking to improve themselves through education and training.
“The generosity shown to our female First Nations students by the Ted Nolan Foundation is transformational and is directly in line with what Cape Breton University values when it comes to the relationships with Canada’s First Nations communities,” says President & Vice-Chancellor, David C. Dingwall. “We want to provide endless opportunities for our students and this contribution for the Rose Nolan Scholarship will provide extra support for First Nations students on their path to a post-secondary education.”
For more than 16 years, the Ted Nolan Foundation has been advocating for the advancement of First Nations youth in their pursuit of education for a better future. Rose Nolan Scholarship, established in the name of Ted Nolan’s mother, will help First Nations women achieve their educational and training goals, while maintaining strong community involvement.
“Collectively, we need to work together and support our First Nations women through education to ensure they get the opportunities they rightly deserve so they can become tomorrow’s leaders,” says Ted Nolan, Founder of the Ted Nolan Foundation. “To work with Cape Breton University and the Purdy Crawford Chair in Aboriginal studies to establish the scholarship in my mother’s name is a great fit and I look forward to seeing the outcomes for aboriginal women at CBU.”
As well, First Nations University of Canada in Regina, SK, also received a $75,000 donation from the Ted Nolan Foundation.
