President Dingwall on Ratification of Tentative Agreement

I wish to express my appreciation for the efforts of both bargaining committees for the successful end of this strike. I am so very pleased that the members of the Cape Breton University Faculty Association have ratified the tentative agreement along with the Board of Governors. This provides a solid foundation for strengthening relationships, moving forward together, and ultimately getting students back in the classroom where, together with CBUFA, they will continue their academic journeys.

To our students, you have persevered again. In recent years you overcame the pandemic and Hurricane Fiona and you suffered much uncertainty and inconvenience in the last few weeks. I am consistently proud of the way you handle things, of the way you view the world, and of your tenacity to overcome the challenges you face. I know it hasn’t been easy for you, but we, as a university, will continue to support you as we transition back to the classroom. We have promised that you will be compensated for lost time and those details will be announced in the coming days.

To our faculty members, welcome back. While every single employee at CBU plays an important role in student experience, your time in the classroom is pivotal. The knowledge and expertise you impart to our student community is helping shape the minds of future generations and I sincerely thank you for that.

There are many exciting initiatives on the horizon for CBU, and I am grateful that we will embark on them together. While there is still much work to do, we must focus our energy on the future, work together to rebuild trust, and continue to create a thriving community where we all contribute to the greater good.

Your very truly,

David C. Dingwall

President and Vice-Chancellor

Cape Breton University

Please note: An announcement will be made soon about a return to class date.
