May 5 marks Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+). Join Unama’ki College in the campus cafeteria at 11:00 a.m. as we gather to honour, remember and stand in solidarity with those whose lives have been taken or impacted by this ongoing crisis.
The commemoration will open with a welcome from Unama’ki College’s Kisiku on Campus Lawrence Wells and will feature a special drumming performance by local L’nu knowledge keeper and drummer David Meuse. A table will also be set up offering red cookies and MMIWG2S+ pins.
All members of the campus community are welcome and encouraged to attend to reflect, learn and show their support. To learn more about the MMIWG2S+ calls to action and read the final report, please visit the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls website.
