Please join us for a one-day (6 hour) professional development certificate course ‘Get Your Message Across in an Age of Uncertainty’, facilitated by communications practitioners Barry J. McLoughlin and Laura M. Peck- Principals, TLC Transformational Leadership Consultants. This course will be delivered in hybrid format.
About the course:
In an era marked by misinformation, disinformation, AI “deepfakes,” shifting media consumption, and global disruptions, participants will gain practical skills to overcome communication barriers and ensure their messages resonate. The course provides strategies for framing and positioning issues, selecting impactful vocabulary and soundbites and choosing the most effective platforms to reach target audiences.
Each participant will receive a Course Workbook including: scenarios, planning tools, exercises, observer checklists, course evaluation).

Barry McLoughlin, B.A., M.P.A.
An internationally recognized strategic, risk, and crisis communications consultant, trainer, and educator with decades of experience advising leaders in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. As President of TLC Transformational Leadership Consultants Inc., with offices in Ottawa and Washington, D.C., he has coached Prime Ministers, Premiers, Cabinet Ministers, and First Nations Chiefs throughout Canada and internationally. A member of the Expert Committee of the International Association of Risk and Crisis Communication (Geneva), Barry has taught Strategic Communications and related fields at the Shannon School of Business MBA-CED program, Carleton University’s Riddell Master of Political Management program, the University of Ottawa, and Carleton University. Alongside Laura Peck, he has led thousands of leadership and communications seminars across North America and around the world.
Laura Peck, B.A. B.Ed., H.K.E.E.
Co-founder, principal consultant, and senior trainer with TLC Transformational Leadership Consultants Inc.. An accomplished educator and communications strategist, Laura has delivered thousands of seminars for executives, political leaders, and public officials in Canada and internationally.
She has taught Strategic Communications at the Shannon School of Business, Carleton University’s Riddell Master of Political Management program, and the University of Ottawa, and has guest lectured at Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania.
Laura has also worked extensively with Indigenous organizations, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. In 2025, she was appointed to the Expert Committee of the International Association of Risk and Crisis Communicators (IARCC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
