Exhibit Opening: Cape Breton University – 50 Years in the Making

All CBU community members are invited to the opening of a special exhibit Cape Breton University – 50 Years in the Making on Thursday, May 2, from 2:00-4:00pm at the Old Sydney Society’s Sydney Museum at 173 Charlotte Street, Sydney.

The Anniversary Research Committee, in collaboration with the Beaton Institute and the Library and Cultural Resources Department, has curated a selection of artifacts, photographs and stories that encapsulate the rich history of CBU and its predecessor institutions over the years.

The story of CBU is a celebration of the history of our home and the trust the people of Unama’ki-Cape Breton have placed in us. From humble beginnings to global recognition, the exhibit showcases key milestones and artifacts, including replicas, digital and print yearbooks, a spotlight on the 1987 Jeux Canada Winter Games, an Alumni Headquarters, an academic regalia display, photo opportunities and so much more.

As a special touch, visitors can also leave a memory card to enter a draw for the CBU Alumni Basket and take home a souvenir card.

The exhibit will be open to the public throughout the year during the museum’s regular opening hours as follows:

  • May 3-20, 2024: Tuesday – Thursday: 10:00am-3:00pm
  • May 21 – November 15, 2024
    • Tuesday – Friday: 9:00am-5:00pm
    • Saturday: 10:00am-4:00pm
