Debbie Ruiz Memorial Basketball Tournament

Join us October 13-15 for the Debbie Ruiz Memorial Basketball Tournament at Cape Breton University.

This women’s tournament will feature UPEI, Mount Royal University, University of Windsor and Cape Breton University.

All proceeds go to the Debbie Ruiz Scholarship.

From Montreal, Debbie was a member of the women’s basketball team from 2004-2007 and an assistant coach in 2008. A two-time AUS All-Star, Debbie was the driving force behind the CAPERS 2006 AUS Championship win and CIS silver medal – the first national medal for the CBU women’s basketball program. Debbie was a champion on and off the court. Sadly, Debbie passed away from cancer in July 2016. This tournament and scholarship are intended to incorporate some of the characteristics that made Debbie unique and to help ensure that the memory, spirit and ideals she represented are kept fresh in the minds of all CAPERS female athletes.
