About Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard:

Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard is the first African Nova Scotian woman appointed to the Senate of Canada. A lifelong advocate for human rights, employment equity and mental health, she has dedicated her career to addressing systemic barriers faced by African Canadians. With a distinguished career as a professor at Dalhousie University and founder of the Association of Black Social Workers, she has pioneered Africentric social work education and continues to champion equity and inclusion at the national level.
