Pursuing Your Passion and Sharing Your Talents: Meet Max Murphy

On Saturday, November 23, the 17th annual Autism Rocks concert will take place from 4:00pm-1:00am at the Steel City (252 Townsend St.). The event, created by the Cape Breton branch of Autism Nova Scotia, was launched to support local recreational programs for autistic youth. CBU Inclusive student, Max Murphy, looks forward to performing at the event.

Showcasing his talents through country music, Max has been playing the guitar for most of his life, continuously learning and improving daily. Not only does Max play and sing, but he also writes his own music, which recently culminated in the release of his debut album, Life of Country Music.

In addition to his skills as a performer, Max runs his own company, Max Murphy Music, through which he sells his merchandise and album. He also manages social media accounts to engage with the Cape Breton community and beyond, sharing his music with listeners across the world.

Max credits a visit to Nashville a couple of years ago for helping him truly experience music, which further strengthened his passion for the art form. “I like playing music because it excites me,” says Max. “Playing at Autism Rocks is important to me because music is my passion and I want to help support my community.”

As a part of the CBU community, Max is currently enrolled in the Inclusive program, a program uniquely designed to suit individuals with an intellectual disability. Those in the program can choose to study Arts and Social Sciences, Science, Education and Health, Business or Interdisciplinary studies over the course of two to four years. When new students join the program, they choose courses that interest them personally and relate to their individualized learning goals and potential employment paths. Upon successful completion, students receive a certificate for their program and a detailed learning transcript.

Catch Max’s next performance live alongside other musical talents including Garret Mason, Ivy League, Third Wheel, Sonic Highway and more at Autism Rocks. The CBU community is invited to this spectacular show and encouraged to sing along while supporting a local not-for-profit.
