At the height of COVID-19, many found themselves reconsidering their paths. Some started new jobs, began working from home, moved closer to family or even returned to school for further education. Soon-to-be CBU graduate, Rahim Maimun, spent his time looking for the perfect university to plan his next steps.
“CBU stood out immediately and when I saw pictures of Cape Breton, I felt something special,” says Rahim. “CBU was the only university that responded promptly and handled my tricky transfer student situation, which made my decision even easier.”
Originally from Bangladesh, Rahim has been living and working in Cape Breton since 2021 and is about to graduate from the Bachelor of Business Administration Co-op program during the Spring 2025 Convocation. Rahim says the ability to pursue a concentration in Human Resources while also gaining hands-on experience through co-op placements has been incredible and has set him up for success in the field.
“Coming to Canada as a clueless 18-year-old, CBU has helped me grow tremendously,” says Rahim. “It’s taught me independence, helped me build connections and has given me both academic and real-world skills. Now, I can confidently stand on my own.”
With his nearest family living in Ontario, Rahim says the community at CBU became his support system, especially those in the Advising Centre, Career Services and his colleagues in Development and Alumni. Throughout his time at CBU, Rahim has fostered and nurtured deep, personal connections with many Capers and says they have helped him both personally and professionally.
“I want to give my deepest thanks to CBU’s Development and Alumni team; they were more than just colleagues, they became my Canadian family, people I could wholeheartedly rely on,” Rahim begins. “From professional guidance to personal advice, they were always there for me with patience and encouragement. The opportunities they gave me and the kindness they showed shaped both my education and my character. I’ll forever be grateful for their mentorship and kindness.”
Rahim is currently working as a Client Advisor at RBC Bank as well as a role in the HRM/Deli section of Atlantic Superstore. Following his graduation, he plans to work in the financial sector, but is also considering the pursuit of further education by enrolling in a Master’s program. Wherever Rahim’s path takes him next, we know he will soar to success.
Congratulations to Rahim and the entire Spring graduating class of 2025!
