CAPERS Soccer: A MacIntyre Family Tradition Continues

This Saturday, September 8, the CBU CAPERS Men’s and Women’s soccer teams will face off against UNB in their season home openers. One CAPER taking the field for the Men’s team will be fourth-year Bachelor of Science student Jesse MacIntyre, but he’s not the first of his family to bleed orange. Jesse’s uncle Mark MacIntyre played for CBU in the early eighties while studying Civil Engineering and again when he returned for his second degree in 1990. For the MacIntyres, CAPERS Soccer is a family affair.
“It’s pretty cool knowing my uncle came to CBU and also played on the soccer team. He, along with my cousin Wyatt Scheller and my sister Allie MacIntyre all played soccer for CBU, so I grew up wanting to play for my home university,” says Jesse.
Jesse says his experience at CBU has given him the opportunity to meet people from around the world while learning from excellent coaches and professors. Playing on the Capers has been the cherry on top. “It’s surreal to have guys from all over the world come together to make CBU rise up and be the best university team in the country,” says Jesse.
The CAPERS are looking forward to facing one of their biggest rivals, UNB, on Saturday and starting their season with a big win. Both MacIntyre men will be in attendance, with Jesse on the field and Mark taking centre stage at halftime with his band, Kintyre.
“When we were asked to perform during the Men’s and Women’s home opener we jumped at the opportunity,” says Mark. He’s also looking forward to cheering on Jesse and the rest of the CAPERS team. “I’m proud to see Jesse on the field wearing the CAPERS colours,” says Mark.
We invite you to join us for Orange Out Day on Saturday, September 8. Beginning at 11:00 a.m. we’ll have Orange Army training in the Pit where you can pick up t-shirts, get your face-paint on, make posters and noise makers and get hyped for the games. There will also be a free community barbecue sponsored by the CBU Alumni Association and live entertainment.
Everyone from kids to kids at heart are welcome to come out and cheer on the CAPERS!
