CAPERS Athletics Announces Staffing Change for Men’s Basketball Program

The Cape Breton University Department of Athletics announces that David Petroziello and CBU have agreed that Petroziello will no longer be the Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball program. Both parties agreed that it was in their best interest to pursue other opportunities. Petroziello’s departure will take effect immediately.
“We are grateful for the dedication that Coach Petroziello has shown our program and we wish him all the best,” says Director Of Athletics and Student Life, John Ryan.
Mr. Petrozello added, “I want to thank Cape Breton University for the opportunity to coach the men’s basketball team these past two years. I am forever grateful to the committed players and coaches who worked to build a foundation for the future. Their efforts and dedication will return the CAPERS to the top of the AUS in coming years. My family and I are excited about our next step, and we will always have some fond memories of our time on the Island.”
The 2018-19 CAPERS Men’s Basketball program will see former CAPERS men’s basketball coach and player, Matt Skinn, behind the bench. Skinn, fresh off a national championship title win with the University of Calgary Dinos, has been appointed Interim Head Coach.
Skinn coached the CAPERS to an Atlantic University Sport title in his rookie season in 2012-13 and was named the AUS Coach of the Year.  Over four seasons, he had an overall regular-season record of 49-31.
