On Saturday, September 8, 2018, the Cape Breton University CAPERS Men’s and Women’s soccer teams will take the field for their season home openers against UNB. To celebrate, CBU in partnership with the CBU Alumni Association and CBU Students’ Union will host Orange Out Day beginning at 11 a.m. on campus.
This high-energy community event will bring together CAPERS fans for community Orange Army training, where participants will learn CBU cheers and prepare signs for the games; a free community BBQ sponsored by the CBU Alumni Association; and allow an opportunity to view the 2017 Usports trophy and medals.
“The CAPERS are looking to have another terrific season both in the classroom and on the field of play,” says Director of Athletics, John Ryan. “Our teams take pride in representing Cape Breton Island and prepare every day to compete with the best in the country. With the support of the Cape Breton Island community fuelling them, I know that they’ll take their game to an even higher level. We’re very excited to host Orange Out Day and welcome the community to campus to cheer on our student athletes.”
To add to the excitement of the home openers Margaret MacPherson, a fourth-year Bachelor Science, Nursing student will open with the National Anthem and local band Kintyre will provide half-time entertainment during each game.
