My name is Kennedy Semple and I am a second year Science student from Pictou County, Nova Scotia. I came to Cape Breton University because it is the only school that allows me to study Science while also playing my fiddle: I’m studying a Bachelor of Science with a Certificate of Ethnomusicology.
I feel a great sense of belonging at CBU, which I know is from our small campus and all of the people who genuinely want to see me succeed here. I am thankful everyday that I chose CBU.
I was worried I would get homesick when I first moved here from across the province. So to stay busy, I decided to get involved in some of the extracurriculars that CBU has to offer. One year later and I can’t fit any more on my plate. I’m House Council President, Peer Success Coach, hold a seat on the Student Representative Council and I’m a Student Senator.
All of these activities and my courses help keep me busy while fulfilling my CBU experience. I know that wherever I head next, I will have so many valuable skills and resources that are specific to my time here in Cape Breton.
From the professors who email you when you miss a class, to the student support workers who help make my schedule so I can juggle it all, thanks for helping shape #myCBUstory!
