Cape Breton University (CBU) is actively seeking an experienced academic leader to serve as their next Dean, School of Education and Health, to lead the faculty, staff and students at the School through visioning and strategic planning that will continue CBU’s success into the future. The Dean will be joining CBU at an exciting time as the university embarks on a transformative mission guided by recent strategic planning with goals to grow the university while investing ambitiously and sustainably in academic and research success.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Dean, School of Education and Health (SEH) is responsible for providing overall strategic leadership and direction to faculty and professional staff on all undergraduate and graduate academic programs, experiential learning opportunities, and pathway initiatives in Nova Scotia and beyond. The Dean is responsible for ensuring a high-quality educational experience for CBU students, supports the growth of the faculty and staff, and promotes a high standard of research and scholarship.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Dean is accountable for the creation, implementation and effective management of performance of the School’s and University’s integrated plans, and for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of the programs delivered. The Dean ensures all human and fiscal resources are administered effectively while creating a positive and productive work and learning environment. The Dean will also play an active role in the broader community, representing the School with various constituents, partners and external groups.

As the ideal candidate, you possess a record of successful academic, research, administrative and leadership experience. A PhD or equivalent terminal degree is preferred but equivalent experience combined with a graduate degree will be considered. As a collegial, and visionary leader, you bring outstanding communication and relationship building skills, and will be an ambassador and advocate for the School across the University. Your values-based approach to leadership demonstrates your commitment to CBU’s social purpose and service to communities.  You are committed to advancing the excellence of research and education in the School, and have demonstrated effective and strategic decision-making in your previous roles. You have a passion for student success and demonstrated strength in mentoring and building collaborative teams. You value relationships within, across, and outside the University and have experience actively building and maintaining partnerships locally and internationally with community, industry, government, and other institutions and researching funding agencies, in support of institutional and community goals.
