The Department of Education at CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position in STEM Education (with a focus on Mathematics Education) at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will commence July 2022.

The field of STEM Education is crucial to developing students’ sense of curiosity and innovation. The worlds of mathematics, science, and technology are ever-changing and students require instruction that will provide the skills and knowledge needed to solve the problems of the future.
The successful candidate will teach courses leading to Bachelor of Education degrees in Secondary and Elementary Education. The ability to teach mathematics methodology courses at the pre-service teacher and at the graduate level is required. The successful candidate will also design and deliver forward thinking programming with an inquiry-based approach. Strong pedagogy in universal design for learning (UDL), culturally responsive teaching (CRT), and authentic assessment in STEM Education are required. The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in STEM Education with a focus on Mathematics, maintain a robust research program, and assume educational leadership responsibilities, such as curriculum development, evaluation, innovation, course coordination, graduate teaching assistant supervision, and other leadership roles.
Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in STEM education with a focus on Mathematics by the appointment start date, experience working within P-12 school systems and community contexts, and evidence of successful university-level teaching in teacher education courses. Experience in, and knowledge of, education for sustainability, and Indigenous pedagogical approaches will be considered an asset.
CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line. The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload. While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate potential and commitment with regard to teaching, research/creative/scholarly activities (take out for lecturer) and service to Cape Breton University, community and profession.
