Archive Technician

CBU invites applications for an Archive Technician. This is a full-time continuing role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the staff of the Beaton Institute to advance the acquisition, arrangement, description, preservation and access of records held by the archive. The Archive Technician works within a collaborative and team environment within the Library and Cultural Resources Department at Cape Breton University. The individual is involved with all core archival functions to ensure preservation and access to historically and culturally significant documentary heritage of Unama’ki, Cape Breton Island, according to established archival principles and practices.

The Archive Technician must possess excellent organizational skills, ability to assess and analyze archival records, read hand-writing, work with microfilm and a variety of audio-visual formats, be knowledgeable of archival preservation practices for physical and electronic records, have experience with collections management software and the Rules for Archival Description (RAD). Knowledge of the history, culture and heritage of Unama’ki, Cape Breton and/or Atlantic Canada is considered an asset.

The union affiliation of this position is with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3131. Salary level is Band 8 (provisional).
