Tax Receipts (min. $20 donation) are issued in name of the individual paying for the gift (e.g. the credit card holder or cheque signatory). If you donate online your receipt will be emailed to you right away. If you give through the mail or over the phone your receipt will be mailed to you within two weeks.

Other Ways to Give

Securities: Making a gift of securities is a tax-effective way to support Cape Breton University. When you donate publicly traded stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, you avoid paying capital gains tax and receive a charitable tax receipt for the full market value of your gift. Your contribution will help advance research, scholarships, and educational programs, making a lasting impact on students and the future of our university community. Gifts-in-kind: Gifts in kind are non-cash donations such as equipment, artwork, or real estate that support Cape Breton University’s mission. When you donate a gift in kind, you may be eligible to receive a charitable tax receipt based on the fair market value of your gift, as determined through a qualified appraisal. Your generosity helps enhance the learning environment, making a lasting impact on students and faculty alike. In Memoriam / Tribute Gifts: In Memoriam and Tribute Gifts offer a meaningful way to honor a loved one or celebrate a special occasion while supporting Cape Breton University. U.S. Donors

Cape Breton University can now officially accept donations from supporters in the United States. We have partnered with Community Foundation of Nova Scotia (CFNS) to ensure US donors can support CBU while receiving the appropriate tax benefits. All gifts are receipted in full compliance with US charitable giving requirements, making it easy for our alumni and friends across the border to contribute. Many CBU graduates living in the States have already stepped forward to support the campaign, and we would be honoured to have you join them.
