We are hiring a Human Resources Co-op Student
Position summary:
The Halifax Port Authority is seeking a Human Resources Co-op Student for a four-month term.
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this position will support the Human Resources team in
maintaining employee files, updating job descriptions, onboarding, assisting with employee
engagement initiatives, and a variety of other HR related tasks. This role offers hands-on experience
in HR operations, while also gaining exposure to our strategic vision and learning what drives our
culture in a dynamic organizational environment.
What you’ll do:
Organize, update, and maintain confidential employee records (electronic and paper)
Ensure accuracy and completeness of employee files
Assist with data entry and document archiving
Review and update job descriptions under guidance, track changes and maintain version
control
Assist with job advertisements and screen resumes as required
Schedule interviews and coordinate candidate communications
Support onboarding activities, including preparing documentation for new hires
Assist with HR projects, coordination of meetings, and training sessions
Assist with research regarding HR policies, best practices and related procedures
Help ensure HR processes comply with labour laws and organizational policies
Compile and update reports regarding HR metrics
What you’ll bring:
Currently pursuing a post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business
Administration, or related discipline.
Strong proficiency in MS Office 365 (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Excellent organization and communication (verbal and written) skills.
Knowledge of HRIS, or similar payroll systems such as ADP is an asset.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.

Position Term
The term of this position is from May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.
Compensation
The compensation for this student position will be dependent on the program and year of study. The
minimum rate of this position is $20.50 per hour.
Additional Conditions
• Successful completion and maintenance of a Criminal Record Check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Pass (RAP).
