Position Summary

EverWind Fuels is embarking on a Clean Energy Project that will create Nova Scotia’s first green hydrogen production facility and unlock the potential of Nova Scotia’s green economy. In addition to the Point Tupper Clean Energy Project, EverWind operates the Point Tupper Terminal which has 7.5 million barrels of storage capacity and specializes in storage, blending and transshipping of petroleum and petrochemical products.

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Summer Student will work closely with our safety team to ensure our employees and contractors have the tools, procedures and equipment they need to do their work safely.  You will be exposed to a wide range of safety tasks and gain experience in field and office HSE work.

Major Accountabilities

  • Safety Program Support
    • Assist with updating safety policies, procedures, and SOPs.
    • Help develop training materials, information sessions, or safety alerts.
    • Participate in risk assessments and help document findings.
    • Support the completion of hazard identification activities.
  • Inspections & Audits
    • Accompany  workplace inspections and checklists.
    • Conduct PPE inspections (gloves, fall protection equipment, eyewash stations)
    • Use inspection templates to identify hazards and log corrective actions.
    • Assist in contractor safety audits.
  • Incident Management
    • Gather initial information for incident and near‑miss investigations.
    • Help complete reports and ensure supporting documents are filed.
    • Track corrective actions and follow up on overdue items.
  • Training & Orientation
    • Maintain training records and update the training matrix.
    • Assist with scheduling annual or mandatory regulatory training sessions.
  • 5. Environmental Responsibilities
    • Conduct waste inspections (hazardous & non-hazardous).
    • Help track chemical inventories and ensure SDSs are up to date.
    • Support compliance tasks such as spill kit inspections or drainage checks.
  • Data Management & Reporting
    • Update incident logs, training records, corrective action registers, KPI dashboards
    • Prepare simple monthly HSE summary reports or charts.
  • Safety Communication
    • Assist in creating bulletin board updates, posters, or awareness content.
    • Take minutes during HSE meetings.
  • Field Exposure
    • Shadow supervisors and employees to understand operations.
    • Participate in safety talks, job hazard analysis, or pre-job briefings.
    • Observe safe/unsafe behaviors and document trends.
  • Administrative & Support Tasks
    • Assist in document control and filing.
    • Update HSE content on internal systems (SharePoint, Teams, etc.).
    • Maintain inventory of HSE supplies (signage, first aid, spill materials).

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Enrolled in a post-secondary safety-related or environmental program
  • Able to work in both office and field environments
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills
