PART-TIME Fall 2025: Fitness Facility Attendant

About the Role:

Cape Breton University’s Fitness Facility is seeking a responsible and customer-focused Fitness Facility Attendant to support the daily operation of our fitness centre. Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Arena Operations, this position plays a key role in creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all users.

Key Responsibilities:

• Open and close the facility, including activating/deactivating lighting and audio systems
• Perform daily cleanliness checks, including washrooms, windows, mirrors, and floor surfaces
• Sweep, mop, and sanitize all fitness areas; ensure equipment is clean and safe for use
• Check and restock paper towel dispensers and cleaning spray bottles as needed
• Operate the cash register and handle point-of-sale transactions
• Sell memberships and accurately record all sales
• Monitor facility access—ensure CBU students present valid ID for entry
• Maintain a safe and organized environment; report any irregularities or damaged equipment
• Provide general assistance to users and respond to questions or concerns
• Secure the facility at closing, including turning off audio and locking all doors

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in a fitness, recreation, or customer service role
• Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Strong attention to detail and reliability
• Ability to work independently and maintain a clean, organized workspace
• Familiarity with fitness equipment is an asset
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions:

• Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• The role requires light lifting (up to 50 lbs)
