About the Opportunity
We are seeking dedicated, energetic, and reliable Facility Attendants to join our campus recreation team. This position plays an important role in creating a safe, clean, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students, members, and guests. The role will cover the fitness centre (gym), box office and net pushers (as needed).
The successful candidates will provide excellent customer service, assist with the day-to-day operation of the facility, monitor equipment and safety, maintain cleanliness, and provide a welcoming experience to all members and guests.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in gaining experience in customer service, facility operations, recreation, health, and wellness.
Hourly Rate: $16.75 per hour
Key Responsibilities
As a Facility Attendant, you will:
- Welcome members and guests and provide friendly, professional customer service.
- Manage member check-ins and respond to membership inquiries or concerns.
- Promote and sell memberships, tickets, etc. and accurately record sales.
- Operate the cash register and process point-of-sale transactions.
- Monitor the fitness area to ensure safety protocols and facility rules are followed.
- Assist clients with basic equipment setup, proper usage, and troubleshooting.
- Provide basic guidance on fitness routines when requested and within the scope of your training and experience.
- Monitor equipment and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment, safety concerns, or other irregularities.
- Contact the manager immediately when an urgent safety concern arises.
- Record relevant information, concerns, incidents, or equipment issues in the staff log at the end of each shift.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming facility throughout each shift, including:
- Fitness equipment
- Locker rooms and washrooms
- Common areas
- Windows and mirrors
- Paper towel dispensers and spray bottles
- Garbage and recycling areas
- Floor surfaces, including sweeping and mopping as required
- Ensure the facility is clean, organized, and ready for use at the beginning and end of each day.
- Open and close the facility according to established procedures, including operating and securing lighting and audio systems.
- Secure the facility at the end of the shift.
- Carry out other related duties as required to support the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a fitness, recreation, hospitality, or customer service environment.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or a willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and a welcoming, approachable manner.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of reliability.
- The ability to work independently and take initiative.
- The ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Familiarity with fitness equipment and basic fitness practices; this is considered an asset.
- Leadership skills and the ability to confidently enforce facility rules and policies when necessary.
Working Conditions
- Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Flexible scheduling will be considered around class schedules.
- The position requires standing and moving throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Light to moderate lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required.
