PART-TIME Fall 2026: Educational Support Attendant

Part-time, 5.5 hours per week. $23 per hour.

Starting September 9th, 2026 or shortly after, additional hours may be available in Winter

This is a self-employed position, not a position through Cape Breton University. The student receiving services is responsible for paying the attendant directly and letting the attendant know if they need to cancel the attendant’s shift. The Jennifer Keeping Centre is not responsible for paying the attendant or administrative duties.

This position involves supporting a credit study student one-on-one to fully participate in a Chemistry class and lab. It will involve the support worker attending classes with the student and supporting them in engaging in class activities to the full extent of their abilities.

The person in this position should be organized, reliable, have good academic skills, good communication skills, and note-taking skills. Experience working with people with disabilities is considered an asset. Mental Health First Aid would be considered an asset. Previous attendance of a Chemistry course would be an asset.

The position requires:

  • building a working rapport with the student
  • taking notes, providing reminders to use audio recording software where needed
  • communicating clearly with the student being supported
  • helping the student to understand class expectations; modeling behaviour appropriate for the setting
  • assisting the student with breaking down tasks, and helping the student with moving from one task to another where needed
  • redirecting student if they go off task
  • assisting with student organization of class materials
  • supporting the students’ social inclusion in classes
  • offering support when student becomes overwhelmed
  • adhering to confidentiality
