Students New to the JKC
Welcome to the Jennifer Keeping Centre for Accessibility! The Jennifer Keeping Centre, or JKC, is here to help students access accommodation needs based on their documented disability. The JKC is one of the most accepting and friendly spaces you will find on campus or off. On campus, we have a space where students can meet, chat or study. We can also meet students online to ensure students can meet with us in a way that works best for them.
Am I eligible?
If you have a medically documented disability, you could be eligible for services related to your disability. Eligible disabilities include:
- learning disabilities
- visual disabilities
- hearing disabilities
- speech disabilities
- neurological disabilities
- mobility disabilities
- mental health conditions
- chronic illnesses
Please note: you must provide documentation from a qualified health practitioner to receive these services. Please see Student Responsibilities for more information.
Registering with the JKC
Registering with the Jennifer Keeping Centre is as easy:
- Go to Accommodate and log in with your CBU email and password.
- Go to Accommodations in the menu and fill out the Initial Accommodation Request to the best of your knowledge. We can adjust it later if needed.
- Gather any disability documentation you may have and book your appointment with an Accessibility Facilitator through the Accommodate You will be able to see their availability and pick a time that works for you.
- If you are a domestic student, apply for a provincial student loan even if you don’t need one as you may still be eligible for grants through Post-Secondary Accessibility Services
- At your appointment we will help you determine the services and equipment you need and will assist you with applying for your province’s funding to pay for it.
Canadian students with documented disabilities may be eligible for a $2800 per year grant but there is also additional funding for specific services and equipment. Please note: Funding through Canada Student Grants cannot be approved until you have met with an accessibility facilitator.

Registration at the JKC is necessary each semester but after your initial registration the process is quick and easy.
