Edgar Samson

Edgar Sampson is an Acadian Nova Scotian and grew up in Petit De Grat in Cape Breton. He started his career in the electrical trade. After working as an electrician for several years, Edgar knew that he wanted to do more for his community and new that establishing a business was the way to do this.

In the spring of 1984, Edgar and his partners, John F. Sampson and Brian Samson, established Premium Seafoods Ltd, a lobster and seafood brokerage venture.

Over the last 30 years, Premium Seafoods Ltd. Has experienced exponential growth and has made an immense impact on the Cape Breton economy.

Currently, the Premium Seafood Group consists of six companies, all specializing in seafood harvesting, processing, brokering and logistics.

In 2013, Premium Seafood’s Arichat plant was destroyed by fire, leaving more than 70 people out of work. Edgar and his partners deeply cared for the community and the economic spin-off of this plant and quickly rebuilt the facility.

Mr. Sampson has been involved in several community organizations and charities. He was president of the Petit De Gras village Square, Board Member of the Roc. Society, Board Member of the Centre La Picasse and Vice president of the Conseil de Development Econmique de la Nouvelle -Ecosse. He has also served as a Board Member of the Arichat Recreation Commission. In 2004, Edgar received an honorary Doctorate in Community Affairs from L’universite Sainte-Anne in recognition of his business and community accomplishments.

As a dedicated community leader, Edgar’s proudest achievements since the inception of Premium Seafood Limited has been giving back to his community and making an impact by employing more than 200 workers from the local area.
