The President’s Medallion of Excellence is one of the University’s highest honours, established to recognize retired faculty and staff whose exceptional contributions have helped shape Cape Breton University and advance its mission, reputation and vitality.

This distinguished honour celebrates individuals whose leadership, service, innovation and dedication have left a lasting mark on the University and the communities it serves. Through The President’s Medallion of Excellence, CBU recognizes retired employees whose contributions have gone beyond the expectations of their roles and whose legacies continue to influence the institution’s success.

As Cape Breton University continues to grow and evolve, The President’s Medallion of Excellence serves as a meaningful way to honour those who helped build the foundation of excellence, community engagement and student success that defines CBU today. 

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

The history of Cape Breton University has been shaped by extraordinary individuals whose vision, commitment and hard work have strengthened the institution across generations.

The President’s Medallion of Excellence recognizes retired faculty and staff whose achievements have had a profound and lasting impact on the University, its students and the broader community. Recipients exemplify the values of leadership, service, excellence and dedication that continue to guide CBU’s future.

By celebrating their accomplishments, we preserve their legacies, recognize their contributions and inspire future generations of faculty, staff and students.

Eligibility

Nominees for The President’s Medallion of Excellence of Cape Breton University must:

• Be retired faculty or staff members of Cape Breton University.
• Have demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the University throughout their careers.
• Have made significant contributions to CBU’s growth, excellence, reputation or community impact.
• Have distinguished themselves through leadership, innovation, scholarship, mentorship, service or other outstanding achievements.
• Have made contributions that extend beyond the normal expectations of their position and continue to have a lasting positive influence on the University.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be considered based on the impact of their contributions in areas such as:

• Academic Excellence
• Advancing teaching, research, scholarship and academic leadership at Cape Breton University.
• Student Success
• Enhancing the student experience through mentorship, support, advocacy and engagement.
• Institutional Advancement
• Strengthening the University’s growth, strategic direction, operations or long-term success.
• Community Impact
• Building meaningful partnerships and fostering connections that benefit both the University and the communities it serves.
• Reputation and Recognition
• Elevating the profile of Cape Breton University provincially, nationally and internationally.

The Honour

Recipients of The President’s Medallion of Excellence will be recognized for their distinguished service and enduring contributions to the institution.
As members of The President’s Medallion of Excellence, honourees join a respected group of retired faculty and staff whose work has helped shape Cape Breton University’s history and whose influence continues to be felt across the University and beyond.

1. Nominations for The President’s Medallion of Excellence may be submitted by filling out this form by members of the University community and the public.
2. Once the form has been filled out, it can be submitted via email to humanresources@cbu.ca.
