The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK is offering scholarships to Canadians for PhD study at UK universities.

 Program name: Commonwealth Scholarship Plan – United Kingdom

  • Managing organization: Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC)
  • Funding organization: United Kingdom Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)
  • Target audiences: Canadian students and researchers
  • Duration: Up to 36 months of support towards the completion of a 3 year PhD at a UK institution; up to 12 months of support for 1 year of study at a UK university as part of a PhD being undertaken at a Canadian university

Competition open for Canadians: Foreign Government Awards Program – Korea, 2017-2018

The Republic of Korea is offering scholarships for study or research in a variety of fields including Korean studies, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering.

  • Duration: 2 years at the Master’s level and 3 years at the doctoral level plus up to 12 months for language training

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA)

Internal deadline: February 15, 2017 

Please review the information on the eligibility and the application process. Applications must be completed online and applicants are required to submit to the Office of Research the following documents:

  • The original official transcript.
  • A statement describing his/her previous research experience, and explaining his/her future plans for a research-based career and why receiving this award would be important to her/him. This statement should be no more than one page in length.

Nova Scotia Innovation & Research Graduate Scholarship Program

Deadline for December Competition: November 1st, 2017

Deadline for February Competition: January 21st, 2017

To apply for NSIRGS DAL-CBU scholarship, eligible students are required to have attained a 3.7 grade point average, have applied for admission to a Dalhousie program (individual departments/programs may have different deadlines) and intend to undertake their research within one of the Nova Scotia priority research areas under the direction of a Dalhousie supervisor and a CBU co-supervisor. Applicants should be in communication with Dalhousie and the department to which they are applying to ensure they adhere to all regulations, processes and deadlines required.
Potential CBU co-supervisors are required to have Dalhousie adjunct status with the department in which the applicant has registered.This arrangement secures an allotment of awards to be made available to applicants who are entering a thesis-based graduate program at Dalhousie University in September of 2017 or January of 2018.
