Students from a variety of programs are looking for experiential learning opportunities throughout the year and are enthusiastic about exploring their career paths. Students benefit from the hands-on experience your organization can offer, and employers stand to gain the knowledge and training students obtain from their program of study. But wait, it gets better!
Did you know? If you require funding assistance, you may be eligible to apply to the following programs:
The Government of Nova Scotia: Co-op Education Incentive is a grant program that provides a 50% student wage subsidy. Apply between 15 August and 15 September 2019 for the Winter 2020 co-op term
The Government of Nova Scotia: Student Summer Skills Incentive (SKILL) offers full funding for summer positions that run between 8 and 14 weeks. Application for the Summer 2020 Work Term is typically open from mid-December 2019 to January 2020 – you hear back in March!
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. Funding is available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Applications will open online in January 2020 and are typically due early February.
CLEAN Foundation of Atlantic Canada accepts project proposals for the 2020 Clean Leadership Summer Program. Applications will open again in the New Year and will be updated online.
The Government of Canada: Student Work Integrated Learning Program (SWILP) provides $5000 to $7000 to support work integrated learning opportunities for students enrolled in STEM and Business programs. Funding is provided through 10 different partners including:
- Information Technology Association of Canada – Career Ready Program
- Information and Communication Technology Council – WIL Digital
- Canadian Council for Aerospace and Aviation (CCAA) – CCAA and the SWILP
- Environmental Careers Organization of Canada – Wage Subsidy Program for Environmental Students
- Biotalent Canada – Student Work-Integrated Learning Program
- MaRS Discovery District
- Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) – Empowering Futures: Developing Electricity Talent Through Work-Integrated Learning
- Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) – Gearing Up: Developing Mining Talent Through Work-Integrated Learning
- Toronto Financial Services Alliance (TFSA)
- Venture for Canada
Young Canada Works (YCW) offers eligible employers wage subsidies and access to a pool of talented youth with innovative ideas and competitive skills. The YCW program is delivered through two components:
- In Heritage Organizations programs offer 6 to 16-week summer employment opportunities that allow students to gain practical work experience and skills while earning money to help pay for their education. Application deadline is typically; January 15th
- At Building Careers in Heritage is an internship program for hiring recent grads for 4-12 months in heritage fields. Application deadline is typically: February 1st
The Energy Training Program helps postsecondary students and recent graduates get work experience in the energy sector with a hiring incentive for local businesses. Employers receive up to 50% (up to $7.50 an hour) of the student or graduate’s wages for a 12 to 17-week work term. Applications are typically due in early January for funding for the coming summer!
