A growing discipline committed to developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating strategic management processes to prevent and mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from natural, technological or human conflict events. It’s about understanding these events and contributing to safer and more resilient communities.

WE CAN DO THIS FOR YOU. Offered exclusively at Cape Breton University (CBU), this post-baccalaureate degree is the only one of its kind in Canada; it is offered entirely online and requires the equivalent of 42 credits to complete – only seven, year-long (two academic semesters) courses in total.* Whereas other emergency management bachelor programs offered in Canada are 120 credits, you begin your studies at a fourth year level upon your acceptance into this program. Upon graduation, you will have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the emergency management discipline, including the many critical facets of prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to have a previous diploma or degree.  Those with other relevant combination of educational and employment experiences will be considered on an individual basis.

In addition to the general application to the university, the following documentation must be submitted:

  • Covering Letter explaining how your previous education and work experience relate to emergency management.
  • Statement of Interest of approximately 500 words describing your interest in emergency management, what you hope to gain from this degree program and your expectations from participating.
  • Resumé or Curriculum Vitae (CV).

EMGN4102 - Disaster Preparedness and Response
EMGN4110 - Business and Industry Crisis Management
EMGN4112 - Hazardous Materials Management and Hazards Mitigation
EMGN4120 - Operational Recovery
EMGN4122 - Management of Public Emergencies
EMGN4130 - Terrorism and Emergency Management

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students are required to achieve an overall average of 65% to be eligible to graduate with the Bachelor of Technology in Emergency Management.
