CBU to Host Canada’s Premier Student Leadership Conference

Cape Breton University announced today that it will host its annual premier student leadership conference October 14-15, 2022. The inaugural conference was held in 2019, but the University was not able to host the conference the last two years because of the pandemic. The Leader’s Edge Student Leadership Conference will engage and inspire students while providing practical hands-on experience.

“During our Strategic Planning sessions, we heard from many students that they want more opportunities to give them an edge in their future career development,” says David C. Dingwall, President & Vice-Chancellor, Cape Breton University. “The Leaders Edge Student Leadership Conference will act as a platform to help articulate the vision needed to excel in today’s ever-evolving workforce.”

Over the two-day conference, students will hear from world-class speakers and gain a better understanding of the skills needed to be successful in today’s workforce.

The Leader’s Edge Conference will feature several exceptional leadership speakers including: Deena “Fireball” Baikowitz, a coach, trainer, speaker, and comedian; Kelli MacPherson, a CBU alumna who worked for many years as a leadership trainer with the United Kingdom army and now has her own leadership consulting company in the UK; Drew Dudley, author and , leadership speaker whose TEDxToronto talk would go on to generate more than five million views; Breagh Isabel, Cape Breton born writer, producer and entertainer whose songs have been featured in television shows like Grey’s Anatomy; Dr. Greg Wells, physiologist, athlete, four-time bestselling author and CEO and founder of Wells Performance, a global consulting firm on a mission to elevate how we live our lives at work and in life, and President Dingwall, who has had a prominent legal career, been, and continues to be, a corporate director, a distinguished public speaker, visiting lecturer and author of the book, “Negotiating So Everyone Wins.”

Additionally, with their participation in the two-day conference, attendees will earn a student leadership certificate, professional photo, chance to win great prizes, but most of all, have fun will enhancing skills they will use as they build their careers.

Registration for the Leader’s Edge Student Leadership Conference is now open at www.cbu.ca/leadersedge. The cost to register is $25 (taxes included). The price includes a conference welcome package, networking reception, professional photo, access to all speakers, and food throughout the conference. The conference is open to current CBU students, CBU alumni from 2019-2022, as well as students enrolled in local career colleges and the NSCC Marconi Campus.
