Cape Breton University will host its annual Hospitality and Tourism Job Fair on campus on Wednesday, November 24. The event, which brings together employers from across Canada with students seeking employment opportunities, will be held in CBU’s Multipurpose Room (CE-241) from 10:00am-2:00pm and is open to all students. Students are encouraged to bring copies of their resume and take advantage of the chance to meet with industry leaders.
“The event serves to bring employers together, be it in-person or virtually, to recruit students for various Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management internship roles,” explains Mary Jane Morrison, Hospitality and Tourism Management Instructor and Program Lead. “These events provide the link between academic and practical application. Students are able to visualize where their academic journey can lead and what opportunities await.”
The Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Internship Program demonstrates CBU’s dedication to experiential learning opportunities, which give students the ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations. Knowledge is deepened through practice and reflection while students build confidence in their field of interest.
This year, CBU is proud to host employers such as Glenghorm Beach Resort, Blue Mountain, Fairmont Properties and more who offer presentations and recruitment material to students. While this year’s employer spots have been filled, CBU welcomes additional employers to participate in future job fairs on campus. Forging connections with students at this early stage in their career journey offers employers a unique opportunity to see what CBU students have to offer, and to find the perfect fit for their organization.
Student internships take place from May to August with the option to extend to mid-October. Internships must extend at least 12 weeks with 540 hours of work. Many students opt to complete two consecutive internships, with the second running from September to December. Employers interested in taking part in future job fairs are encouraged to contact maryjane_morrison@cbu.ca or megan_ringer@cbu.ca for more information.
