In June 2024, the Government of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton University commissioned a feasibility study to explore the potential for light rail transit in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The study examined key factors such as engineering requirements, passenger demand, economic viability, emissions reduction and future growth. Findings indicate that a renewable-powered light rail or Go-Train system for a major passenger corridor in CBRM is both feasible and cost-effective, offering a sustainable solution to enhance and expand regional transit options.
