CBU Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Early Childhood Education Centre

Today, November 20, 2018, Cape Breton University will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Early Childhood Education Centre, lovingly referred to as the CBU Daycare.

“It’s amazing that we’re here today to celebrate twenty-years,” says Raylene Theriault. “The most important thing over the years is that parents are able to access post-secondary education knowing that their children are well cared for in a safe and nurturing, learning environment.”

The Centre opened on this day in 1998 to coincide with National Child Day. A day that has been celebrated in Canada since 1993 to commemorate the United Nations’ adoption of two documents centred on children’s rights: the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1959, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989.

The Centre currently has 35 children enrolled and has had more than 500 graduates who are now pursuing their own education and careers.
