The following awards are available for the 2023-2024 academic year. The number of awards, and their values, are subject to change in future years. JKC-registered students will be eligible for the award based on a minimum registration in 6 credits per Fall and Winter semester.
Martin Chernin & Hugh Tweedie Business Scholarship (1 x $5,000)
Must be registered full-time (30 credits) in the 2nd or 3rd year of the BBA degree program, and have an 85% average to date.
Magna International Scholarship for Excellence in Engineering Technology (1 x $5,000)
Must be a returning student registered full-time (30 credits) in the Bachelor of Engineering Technology program, and have completed at least one year of study. Must have an 80% average.
Fraser Scholarship (5 x $1,000)
Must be a current CBU student entering your 3rd or 4th year of any program, and have indicated an interest in teaching. Must have completed the previous year with a minimum 75% average in 18 credits.
Joan Harriss Scholarship (16 x $500)
Must be a returning student in the Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management degree program. The applicants with the highest averages will receive the awards.
Mendel Chernin Memorial Award (3 x $1,000)
Must be a 2nd Year BBA Student with a 75% average in the previous year.
Trans-Atlantic Preforms Ltd. Scholarship (5 x $1,000)
Must be registered full-time (30 credits) in the BET degree program, and have completed one year of the program with a 75% average.
Margaret Evelyn Burchell Award (4 x $750)
Must be a current CBU Student entering 3rd or 4th year of any program, with a minimum 75% average in 18 credits from the previous year. Two (2) scholarships for female students, and two (2) scholarships for male students are available.
Honourable Mr. Justice George Yates Scholarship (3 x $1,000)
Must be a returning, full-time (30 credits) student majoring in the Legal Studies option of the BBA program, with a 75% average in the previous year.
Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame Scholarship (3 x $1,000)
Must be a returning BBA student, registered full-time (30 credits), and a graduate of a Cape Breton High School.
Coca Cola Scholarship (6 x $500)
Must be registered full-time (30 credits) in any degree or diploma program, and have a 75% average in the previous year.
Lauchie Gillis Memorial Award (2 x $1,000)
Must be a full-time (30 credits) student who has completed at least one Celtic Studies or Folklore course, with a 75% average overall.
Vince Ryan Hockey Tournament John Jr. Hanna Memorial Award (1 x $2,000)
Must be a current, full-time (30 credits) CBU student, and a permanent resident of Cape Breton. Can be enrolled in any degree program, and must be involved in sports in any capacity at CBU or in the community (player, coach, referee, manager, etc.). The recipient will have the highest average of all applicants, with no failures in the previous academic year.
Fabian Joseph Scholarship (3 x $500)
Must be a full-time student (30 credits) who completed at least one year of full-time study at CBU. Must be a participant in some capacity in varsity or intramural athletics, and have a 75% average in the previous year.
Hospitality Endowment Fund In-Course Scholarship – 2nd Year (1 x $1,000)
Must be entering the 2nd year of BHTM program, have all passing grades in 1st year, and have completed 1 work term. Must be registered full-time (30 credits).
Hospitality Endowment Fund In-Course Scholarship – 3rd Year (1 x $1,000)
Must be entering 3rd year of BHTM program, have all passing grades to date, and have completed 1 work term. Must be registered full-time (30 credits).
Canadian Federation of University Women — Cape Breton Branch Award (1 x $1,500)
Must be a Canadian female student entering second year of Engineering Diploma with over 75% average in first year.
John & Selena Daly Scholarship (2 x $500)
Must be a current CBU degree student with an 80% average in the previous year.
Michael Manson General In-Course Scholarship (1 x $750)
Must be registered full-time (30 credits) in any degree program, and have an 80% average in the previous year.
Michael Manson SASS In-Course Scholarship (1 x $750)
Must be registered in a degree program in the School of Arts and Social Sciences as a full-time student (30 credits) with a minimum 80% average and no failures.
Carmen Young Memorial Scholarship (1 x $500)
Must be a full-time (30 credits) 2nd or 3rd year BScN student.
Alexander MacIsaac Memorial Scholarship (1 x $500)
Must be a male graduate of Sydney Academy, with a 75% average in the previous year.
