Kyle McCallum

Assistant Professor

Kyle McCallum (he/him) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Experiential Studies in Community and Sport. Kyle completed his Ph.D. in 2022, with a focus on risk, risky play, outdoor education and leadership, and physical literacy across childhood. Specifically, Kyle’s research explores how risk and risky play function in holistic physical activity endeavours for children, and critically examines how these experiences shape future physical activity pursuits. Beyond his research, Kyle also spent numerous years as a performance coach, strength and conditioning coach, and kinesiologist, working with a number of populations, ranging from elite athletes to the general public. He blends his past experiences, curiosity for promoting physical activity, and interests in risk to bring a holistic teaching environment to his students and communities.
