Student intern position in the Department of Business Intelligence at Cape Breton University subject to the following terms and conditions:

-Type of Appointment: Student Position (Contract)

-Date of Appointment: May 26, 2025 until August 18, 2025 (12 Weeks)

-Compensation: Contract, 12 Week Internship

Duties: The below Job Description forms part of this agreement,
together with such other directions, duties and
responsibilities may vary from time to time. The duties in
the Job Description are subject to reasonable change
and/or periodic updating by the University at its sole
discretion.

Hours of Work: You will be required to work the regular work hours of the
University during the regular work week in accordance with
a schedule reviewed and approved by your direct report.

entrusted with confidential information concerning the
present and contemplated financial status and activities of
the University, including possible personnel and matters
related to labour-relations. The disclosure of any such
information would be highly detrimental to the interests of the
University and we require that you agree to maintain such

PURPOSE

The Business Analyst Intern is responsible for supporting strategic initiatives of the University. In this dynamic role, the intern will be involved in conducting data analysis, assisting the development of institutional research surveys, and contributing towards data-driven projects. This position offers a unique opportunity for those seeking hands-on experience in research, data analysis, data analytics, and communicating insights to stakeholders.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with stakeholders that run adjacent to the Business Intelligence department, contributing towards survey design, ensuring clarity and relevance of questions.
  • Engage in data analysis tasks, including working with aggregate data sets, making pivot tables, charts, graphs, and Power BI.
  • Prepare presentations and reports that provide a clear and concise summary of key findings and insights for internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and research as needed on topics relevant to higher education, business intelligence, and institutional research to inform ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Work on data entry tasks, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data collected. Contribute to quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of data reliability.
  • Document processes and procedures related to institutional research activities.
  • Collaborate with team members and engage with faculty, staff, and administrators, to support the successful execution of institutional research projects and initiatives.

 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Currently enrolled at Cape Breton University or another Canadian institution with interest related to business analytics, data science, business intelligence, statistics, math, or a comparable discipline.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and research methodologies.
  • Ability to critically review literature, analyze data sets, and draw meaningful conclusions to support institutional research objectives.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools such as Excel or Business Intelligence platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in preparing reports, documentation, and presentations.
  • High attention to detail in data entry and analysis, maintaining data integrity.
