Volunteer Supervisor Position Available: Summer Co-op Student (mid- May to August 28, 2026).

Job Summary:
Under the guidance of the Director of Community Relations and Recreation Programs, provide and/or assist with the leadership, recruitment, daily supervision, tracking and recognition of the Summer Volunteen Program (teen aged volunteers) at Ocean View.
Qualifications:
•Enrollment in a relevant, post-secondary program such as; Human Resource Management, Health Sciences, Public Relations, Social Work, Gerontology, or Recreation Leisure Studies.
•Demonstrated leadership ability with peers or youth in group settings.
•Possess the following characteristics and skills
o strong interpersonal skills, including active listening and empathy
o effective oral and written communication skills
o excellent organizational and planning skills
o digital design
o creative problem-solving and good assessment skills.
•Previous experience with the elderly preferred.
•Ability to use social & digital media to effectively communicate or respond to others
•Basic computer skills and knowledgeable in Microsoft products (word, excel, publisher)
Responsibilities:
•Assist with the recruitment of teen volunteers through advertisement, flyers, posters, school visits.
•Assist with screening, interviewing and reference checking of potential teen volunteers.
•Assist with coordination of an initial orientation training session for new volunteers, and a refresher orientation for returning volunteers.
•Liaise with Recreation Staff (or other departments as appropriate) in coordinating volunteer participation in the weekly events scheduled.
•Schedule volunteers in response to identified needs – both in Ocean View and on organized community outings.
•Supervise and support volunteers by regular meetings and ongoing informal contacts.
•Assist with the creation of new volunteer opportunities – specifically on nursing units and 1:1 visiting assignments.
•Maintain accurate statistics of each teen volunteer in the program
•Prepare submissions for the internal newsletter
•Plan, in conjunction with the Director of Community Relations, a recognition event to celebrate the conclusion of the summer volunteen program.
•Assist with and /or support the daily activities of residents, as required.

Salary: $19.00 per hour, 40 hours per week
Hours of Work: The regular hours of work for this position are intended to be 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Given the scope and responsibility of the role, there may be a need to flex hours outside this range.
