Youth Navigator
Post Majority Support Services

Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000 (Based on Qualifications and Experience)
General Description:
Under the direction of the Sipekne’katik Post Majority Support Services Program Director, the Post Majority
Youth Navigator will provide comprehensive assistance to youth and young adults, guiding them in areas
that foster their growth, development, and well-being. This role will also support youth through out the
applications process for the final settlement agreement on compensation with Canada, ensuring they
receive the services to which they are entitled. Specifically, the Post Majority Navigator will focus on
assisting Sipekne’katik youth and young adults who were removed from their homes on reserve as
children under the terms of the agreement. The position is designed to empower these individuals,
helping them navigate the complexities of the compensation process while promoting their overall
personal development and access to vital services.
Responsibilities:
– Must have strong trauma informed and culturally sensitive support skills
– Assisting in accessing support documentation
– Conduct initial and comprehensive assessments to identify individual needs, support systems
and develop individual plans.
– Actively engage and work with various internal and external resources identified by the needs of
the youth and young adult.
– Promote health and well-being though a Mi’kmaw lens.
– Skilled collaboration and maintain professional relationships with program and service providers,
elders, community, government agencies and partners,
– Advocate for Sipekne’katik youth and young adults
– Connect Sipekne’katik youth and young adults to community, culture, and teachings.
– Able to maintain working files that are accurate, concise, and up to date.
– Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all documents and records.
– Develop programming and youth engaging well-being initiatives and activities.
– Able to maintain on-going case follow-up.
– Ability to practice in an anti-oppressive manner.
– Other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience/Skills:
Must possess a Diploma or Degree in Human Services, Social Work or five-year experience in
working in the community service field
Able to work independently
Knowledge of the Final Settlement Agreement on Compensation: Executive Summary
Strong interpersonal, communicational, and conflict resolution skills
Must be in good standing with child welfare for at least five years
Experience working in a First Nations Community is preferred
Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable vehicle with automobile insurance.
A criminal records check is required
