About the Job: 

A student who can aid and assistance with various administrative tasks and contribute to the organization and preparation of the SON Research & Scholarship conference. Additionally, we are looking for someone to assist in the preparation and design of the SON Research and Scholarship Report for the years 2021-2023. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in computer science and technology.

Tasks/Duties:

  • Administrative support to assist in administrative tasks related to conference and report preparation.
  • Data Management to maintain organized records, communication and documentation for the conference and report, and professionally communicate faculty and researchers at SON to collect more data for the report and to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Report Design and Production using computer & technology skills to design the SON Research & Scholarship Report, create visually appealing layouts, graphics, and charts to enhance the report’s presentation.
  • Technology and IT Support by assisting in the development and maintenance of digital platforms for conference materials and helping solving technical issues before and during the conference, and providing any needed logistics and planning support.
  • Marketing and Promotion by communicating with proper people and creating of promotional materials for the conference and report to be used for media and social media.
  • Team Collaboration by working closely with the conference organizing committee and with the assistant dean for research and scholarship to ensure effective coordination of tasks for the conference and report.
  • Be adaptable and willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities to support the successful launch of the conference and the completion of the report.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Knowledge of the operations of a BScN program
  • Knowledge of staff/faculty in the Nursing School and key connections being made for future job opportunities
  • Academic institutional knowledge and the understandings of organizational structure and who to go to for what in each department
  • Learning key knowledge of various accreditation and approval processes in Nova Scotia concerning Nursing
  • Event planning/conference planning
  • Academic reporting

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled, full time, at Cape Breton University, and in good academic standing, preferably in a field related to computer science, information technology, or a related discipline with strong computer science and technology skills (e.g., skills in graphic design, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management)
  • Excellent organizational and office skills to manage administrative tasks and documentation
  • Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize responsibilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving abilities and attention to details
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with other conference organizing committee members and faculty to achieve common goals.
  • Time management skills
