Job Description

Cape Breton University has established a new location in the heart of the Sydney community. This location is key to providing a greater presence in the downtown community. The expansion includes an office location as well as the utilization of the local cinema for class delivery. This new location requires the assistance of a team member to support the outreach to students, staff, faculty and community.
This work study position will provide customer service and support services as we begin this new journey. The student will have the opportunity to experience this new expansion and learn more about Cape Breton University and our role in the community. The position will offer the student the opportunity to plan and execute events such as PD, student and employer workshops giving them valuable event and customer service experience.

Tasks will include:

Customer Service: This position will require excellence in customer service, you will respond to inquiries, in-person, email and/or social media.

Support services: Provide support to faculty in materials preparation and responding to inquiries. Provide support to students with information sessions such as resume building, interview preparation, etc.

Handbook: Work across multiple departments to determine the optimum use of the new space. Prepare a working handbook for users of the new space. This handbook will serve as a guide to users of the new space and include safety information, contact information, maps, and a how-to section on using the installed technology.

Information / learning / meet and greet sessions: Tasks will include preparing information sessions for the students, employers and potentially staff PD. The tasks will also including preparing meeting material in advance, promoting the sessions and ensure a successful session. Setting up the space for employer sessions, PD, student services such as library, resume, academic integrity sessions.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be well organized, a good communicator, and confident with technology, including programs like Word and Excel. Candidates must have excellent writing and oral communication skills; applications that do not demonstrate these skills will not be considered.
