Job Description

As a Let’s Talk Science Outreach Site Coordinator, you will work with a faculty advisor and other team members to develop science outreach material for grades primary through to grade 12 that can be done remotely/virtually. One project is developing take home science kits in partnership with local libraries so that children can virtually and remotely participate in our Let’s Talk Science clubs. Other duties will involve maintaining and building networks with local teachers, volunteers, other site coordinators across Canada, the National Office and local program supporters, as well as keeping records of financial and activity records on the Let’s Talk Science portal.

Qualifications

  • Students from any academic background can apply; however, those in a science, technology or education program are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • We are looking for students who can demonstrate:
  • The ability to work independently but are also good working with a team
  • Good Project Management and Leadership Skills
  • Strong Organizational and Public Speaking Skills
  • Enthusiasm working on science outreach projects for grades primary to 12

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Coordinator will be assigned tasks including but not limited to:

  • Recruiting and training new student volunteers.
  • Helping to plan remote/virtual science outreach activities
  • Maintain up-to-date records of activities carried out and evaluations received on the Let’s Talk Science portal
  • Track finances and maintain an up-to-date budget on the Let’s Talk Science portal
  • Social media promotions
  • Deliver meaningful hands-on/minds-on STEM learning virtually

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop business, leadership and communication skills applicable to any field or career choice
  • Gain fundraising and budgetary skills transferable to everything from everyday life, to small business entrepreneurship, to grant fund management
  • Gain experience in delivering and developing science educational modules for remote/virtual learning
